LAKSHADWEEP
ISLANDS
The paradise islands of
Lakshadweep are situated on the south west coast of India,
approximately 400 kms north of the Maldives Islands. They consist of
36 coral islands covering a land area of 32 sq. kms. of which only
ten are inhabited. They are - Mince, Andrott, Kavaratti, Kadmat,
Agatti, Amini, Kalpeni, Kiltan, Chetlat and Bitra.
How
to reach : Air link from
Cochin to Agatti island. Fast boats from Agatti to Bangaram. An
18-hour trip by sea from Cochin.
Where
to stay: Family huts at
Bangaram, Kadamat and Kavaratti.
What
to see: The main islands are
Kavaratti, Minicoy, and Amini. The archipelago offers good
facilities for cruising and swimming in the crystal-clear waters of
the lagoons.
