Gangtok
A perfect symbol of the
confluence of the past and the present, is Gangtok, the capital of
Sikkim. Built on the flank of a ridge, Gangtok is a town of stupas
and monasteries.
How
to reach: Nearest Airport is
Bagdogra in North Bengal (124 kms). Regular flights link Sikkim with
Calcutta and Delhi. Helicopter service from Bagdogra to Gangtok
takes 45 minutes. Nearest railway stations are at Siliguri (114 kms)
and New Jalpaiguri (125 kms), connecting to Calcutta, Delhi,
Guwahati, Lucknow and other important cities in India. Connected by
road to Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Siliguri and also to all the District
Headquarters within Sikkim.
