SALAR JUNG MUSEUM
The Salar Jung Museum houses the private collections of Salar Jung, the Nizam of Hyderabad's prime minister. The museum has fine collections of jade, metalware, textiles and weapons which provide a glimpse into the post Mughal court life and are suggestive of the grandeur and wealth of rulers in days gone by.
The Jade Room displays beautiful wine bowls, daggers with jade handles, plates, mirror frames in soft translucent colours; white, pink and shades of green. The Metalware and Arms Gallery includes Bidri hookah stands, trays and plates. There are carved ivory chess sets, screens and images. The Textile Gallery exhibits kalamkaris (painted and printed cotton spreads) from Masulipatnam and Kalahasti, shawls from Kashmir, brocades and embroderis.
On display in the Ivory Room are chess sets, images and painted objects. A few ivory objects from Japan are also on display.
