TIPU SULTAN MUSEUM
Tipu Sultan Museum lies within the portals of the Dariya Daulat (splendor of sea), once his summer
palace and later appropriated Arthur Wellesley. Constructed mainly in
wood, the structure rests on a vast plinth. The walls and ceilngs are
elaborately painted. The murals on the outer walls depict scenes from
Tipu's wars while the interior walls are ornately painted with abstract
designs and floral motifs.
The museum displays sketches of
Tipu, his father Haider Ali, his sons, his forts, Srirangapatna from
different angles and Bangalore during the period. There are a number of maps of Tipu's forts and
his dominions. Also on display is the coinage used during the reigns
of Tipu and Haider Ali and medals awarded by Tipu.
The most interesting alcove is the one with portraits and charcoal drawings of Tipu and his family.
