Mother and Son

A day in the year 1879. A passenger ship was on its way from Ceylon (Sri Lanka) to England. One of the passengers was a beautiful English woman. She held a two-year-old child in her lap and gazed at his face. Her own face reflected both joy and sorrow. The child was brown-skinned, dark-haired and had lustrous eyes. He smiled at his mother.
