WHAT TO SEE

City Palace

Built in 1725. The east terrace affords a panoramic view of the city.

Within the four walls are mosaics of peacocks, exquisite mirror work and exotic paintings.

Zenana Mahal

It is a romantic palace, built for the queens by Maharana Karan around 1620 AD. Possessive of their womenfolk, the kings had it built as an impregnable fortress without even a window.

The Mahal has a ‘Rang Bhawan’ near the entrance. There are three shrines – two dedicated to Lord Krishna and one to her worshipper Meera.

Lake Palace

The palace, as the name implies, is amidst a lake Pichola. From the banks, the palace is 800 feet and is on an area of four acres. It is built in marble and granite and was raised by Maharana Jagat Singh II in 1746.

Lake Pichola

The lake is fringed by hills, embankments, bathing ghats, shrines and palaces on its western and southern periphery.

It is the solitary lake of sheer magnificence with a palace in its middle.
