Son of Vyasa, of ascetic bent of mind right from his early childhood, having inquisitiveness -jijnasa - for Brahma-Vidya ( knowledge of the Absolute Being ) and a preacher of devotion to God, Shukadeva studied tbe Bhagavata Purana mainly under the guidance of his father. He learned the life-story of Bhagavan Krishna from the mouth of Bhagavan Shankara. He acquired the knowledge of Brahma ( Brahmavidya ) from the king of Mithila , Raja Janaka. He recited and explained the entire Bhagavata Purana in seven days to king Pariksita, the grandson of Pandavas, who had been cursed to meet his death on the seventh day through snake bite, in order to make him free of the fear of death.
