Sri Bhoja Raja

A famous king, Bhoja dreamed that his enemies have made him bereft of his kingdom and wives and that hunger forced him to eat their leavings. Influenced too much by it he renounced his household and achieved oneness with Absolute Being ( Brahmanirvana ) through spiritual endeavour ( Sadhana ).

There has been another famous King Bhoja also who belonged to the Parmar dynasty of Malava and who was himself an expert in many branches of knowledge ( Bahuvidya-Visarada ). He was well known for providing patronage ( protection ) to learned persons. Besides Bhoja Vrtti, a famous commentary on Yoga philosophy, many other books on subjects such as Astrology ( Jyotis'a ), Literature ( Sahitya ), Music ( Sangita ) and one on the Science of horses ( Asvasastra ) we find as attributed to Bhoja are all understood to be the works of this Parmar king Bhoja. Bhoja is a common enough name also of kings in Puranas.

Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, is a fascinating amalgam of scenic beauty, old historic city, and modern urban planning. It is situated on the 11th century city, Bhojapal, founded by Raja (king) Bhoja. He was also a Sanskrit scholar. His book, Ra_ja ma_rta_nda is a treatise in a_yurveda herbs locally available in Madhya Pradesh.

Bhoja Prabandha Samhita (900 A.D) describes brain surgery successfully performed.

Bhojpur is a historic village, central Madhya Pradesh state, central India, just east of the Betwa River. The village includes the remains of a richly carved Shaivite temple, traditionally said to have been erected by Raja Bhoja, a Paramara Rajput (member of the warrior caste) in the 11th century.
