Thakkara Bappa
Extant during Kaliyuga's years 4960 to 5052 (1859 to 1951 A.D.).
A famous server of society who, moved by the pitiable conditon of the denizens of the jungles, devoted his entire life and energy to the service of them and to the improvement of their condition. He was son of Vitthaldas Thakkar, a person prone to social service in Bhavanagar city of Gujarat. Thakkar Bappa, whose full name was Amrit Lal Thakkar, renounced his job of a senior engineer and took the vow of being a whole time server through the medium of Bharata-Sevaka Samaja. He established an organisation by the name of Bhila Seva-Mandala which turned out to be a great source of inspiration for creative service. Affected by the afflicted ( distressed ) condition of the denizens of jungles, the people of so-called primitive castes, he became one of them.
