Introduction
The twin states of Jammu and Kashmir are situated at the northernmost tip of India.
Naturally beautiful and very picturesque, J&K has been acclaimed as the most beautiful place on earth by many travellers and poets. The state is dotted with various hill stations each with excellent facilities. J&K has beautiful valleys, mountains, springs, gardens, waterfalls, rivers and religious shrines. J&K has unique handicrafts like Pashmina shawls, silk carpets, paper mache items and wicker baskets.
Further up north, the Leh and Ladakh districts are primarily Buddhist with serene monasteries and snow clad mountains.

Jammu
Jammu is a city of temples and shrines, now also fast emerging as a commercial centre.
How to reach: Regular flights operate from Jammu to Delhi and Srinagar/Leh. Well connected by rail and road.

Srinagar
Srinagar, the summer capital of Kashmir is known for its beautiful Dal Lake and Mughal Gardens - Shalimar and Nishat Bagh.
How to reach: The airport is 13 kms out of the city, flights from Delhi, Jammu, Amritsar and Leh. Nearest railhead is at Jammu (305 kms).
Where to Stay: Hotels, House boats and Tourist reception centres.
What to see: Dal Lake, Sri Pratap Singh's Museum, Shah Hamdan Mosque, Pather Masjid, Tomb of Zain-ul-Abidin, Jama Masjid, Shankracharya Hill, Chasma Shahi, Pari Mahal, Nishat Bagh, Shalimar Bagh, Nasim Bagh, Hazratbal Mosque, Nagin Lake and Hari Parbat Fort.

Ladakh
Often called as "the moonland", "little Tibet" or "Shangri La," Ladakh is situated north of the Himalayas in the Tibetan plateau. Dotted with many pale stone monasteries and multi coloured prayer flags, Ladakh is the highest inhabited region in India with rich landscapes.
How to reach: The Srinagar to Leh road opens officially from 15th May to 30th October. The Manali to Leh road is open from July to October.
Where to Stay: Accomodation is available to suit all budgets. Most hotels are family run operations. Tourist Bungalows and Rest Houses are available.
Whatto see: Leh, Tsemo Gompa, Leh Palace, Leh Mosque, Stok Palace Museum, Namgyal Tsemo.
Excursions: Lamayuru (125 kms), Phiyang Gompa (20 kms), Spitulk Gompa, Shey Palace and Monastery (15 kms), Alchi Gompa (66 kms), Hemis Gompa (43 kms).
