Bomdila

Headquarter of West Kameng District, Bomdila is a small town situated at a height of 8500 ft. Picturesque Himalayan landscapes, pleasant climate, apples, 7500 varieties of orchids, artistic people and Buddhist Gompas are the main attractions of this place.

How to reach : Tezpur (190 kms) is the nearest airport with daily flights from Calcutta. Nearest railway station is Rangapara (1100 kms). Well connected by daily bus services from Tezpur.

Tipi

On the way to Bomdila, lies the flora-glass house of Tipi, situated on the banks of river Bharali, surrounded by evergreen forests. Over 7500 orchids of about 300 species are found here. Tawang

Tawang the land of the Monpa tribes and the major centre of Mahayana Buddhists stands on the spur of a hill over 12,000 ft. above the sea level, overlooking a valley and surrounded on all sides by mountains.

How to reach : Nearest airport is Tezpur (345 kms). Nearest railhead is Rangapara (280 kms). Buses and taxis ply regularly from Bomdila to Tawang.

Naharlagun And Itanagar

Located in the Himalayan foothills of Papum Pare district, Itanagar is the capital of Arunachal Pradesh which includes Naharlagun as well. Its main attraction is the fresh cool breeze and the climate that attracts many visitors.

How to reach : Nearest airport is Lilabari in Assam (57 kms from Naharlagun and 67 kms from Itanagar.) Naharlagun is also connected by a helicopter service from Guwahati. Nearest railway stations are at Harmuti (23 kms from Naharlagun) and North Lakhimpur (60 kms from Itanagar) in Assam.

Manipur And Imphal

Manipur

Nestling amidst a lush green comer of North East India is the beautiful little Shangrila called Manipur. Literally meaning 'a jewelled land', Manipur is really a paradise on earth with picturesque surroundings and breathtaking views.

Imphal

The capital of Manipur, Imphal is a bustling mini m e t r o p o I i s situated at height of 790m above sea level.

How to reach : Imphal is connected by air with Calcutta Delhi, Aizwal Guwahati and Silchar. Nearest railhead is at Dimapur (215 kms.). By road it is a 123 kms. drive from Kohima in Nagaland. Imphal is connected by a network of roads with all the important cities of North Eastern India.

Nagaland And Kohima

Nagaland :

Nagaland is situated south of Arunachal Pradesh, bordered by Myanmar. A hilly state, Nagaland is famous for its War Cemetry.

Kohima :

Is the state capital and a hill station situated at an altitude of 1444m above sea level.

How to reach : Nearest airport is at Dimapur which connects Nagaland with Delhi, Calcutta and rest of the country. Dimapur lies on the main line of North Eastern Frontier railway. All important towns and villages are connected by the Nagaland State Transport Services. Some major distances are : Guwahati to Kohima - 342 kms, Kohima to Imphal-145 kms, Dimapur to Kohima-72 kms.

Where to stay : Tourist lodge. Yatri Niwas, MLA Hostel, V.I.P. Guest House, Hotel Pine, Hotel Capital, Hotel Ambassador, Tourist Lodge, Hotel Japfu, Valley view.

What to see : War Cemetry, Museum, Cultural C e n t r e , Zoological Park, C a t h e d r a I , Kohima village (Bara Basti), Khonoma , Dzukou Valley, Dzulekie, Japfu Peak (3048m) above sea level (15 kms south of Kohima).

Entry formalities for Nagaland, Manipur Arunachal Pradesh & Mizoram: Foreigners are not allowed to enter Nagaland. Foreign nationals (individuals) intending to visit the States of Mizoram, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh are required to apply for Restricted Area Permits (RAP) to the Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi through the Indian Missions in their respective countries.

In the case of group tourists of four and above the RAPs can be obtained from The Indian Missions, FRROs in Mumbai/Calcutta/Delhi and Immigration Office in Chennai.

Domestic tourists are also required to obtain Inner Line Permits before travelling to the above places. These permits can be obtained from the Office of the Resident Commissioner of the respective States located in Mumbai, Calcutta, Chennai, Delhi and Guwahati.

RAPs of ILPs are not required for travelling within the states of Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura.
