Tripura

The erstwhile princely state of Tripura claims a prominent place in North-East for her exquisite natural beauty and scenic spots punctuated with lush green sylvan treasure. In the east it has a common boundary with Assam and Mizoram. About sixty percent of the total area is covered with hills and dense forests. Agartala

How to reach : Connected by air with Calcutta, Guwahati and New Delhi. The nearest railhead is at Dharamanagar (200 kms). Tripura Road Transport Corporation runs buses from Dharmanagar to Agartala. There are also private tourist coaches operating from Silchar to Agartala.

Where to stay : Government tourist lodges, Circuit Houses and many private hotels.

How to reach : At present Aizawal is connected by Indian Airlines flight to Calcutta. The nearest railhead is Silchar. Some of the distances are Guwahati-506 kms, Imphal-374 kms, Kohima 497 kms, Agartala-443 kms.

Where to stay : Government Lodges, Circuit House, State Guest House, Ritz Hotel, Hotel Ahimsa, Hotel Sangchia etc.

What to see : Mizoram State Museum, Borabazar, the Weaving Centre, the mini Zoological Park, Durtlang Hills and Luangmual Handicrafts Centre.

Excursions : Bung and Paikhai(15-16 kms), Tamdil, Vantawng Waterfalls, Champhai (192 kms).

Entry formalities : Domestic tourists require Inner Line Permits (ILP) from any of the Liasion Officers posted in Mizoram House at various places.

For foreign tourists Restricted Area Permit can be obtained for a group of four members or more, from the Resident Commissioner, Mizoram House, New Delhi or Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, New Delhi. Sikkim

Sikkim is a land of spectacular mountain terrains, varied flora and fauna and ancient Buddhist monasteries.

Entry formalities : All foreigners intending to visit Sikkim can avail of 15 days' permit. Permits for FITs and groups for restricted areas i.e. Gangtok, Rumtek, Phodong, Pelling can be obtained 24 hrs.in advance from all 1ndian Missions abroad, Sikkim Tourism offices at Delhi, Calcutta, Siliguri and Gangtok.

Gangtok

A perfect symbol of the confluence of the past and the present, is Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. Built on the flank of a ridge, Gangtok is a town of stupas and monasteries.

How to reach : Nearest Airport is Bagdogra in North Bengal (124 kms). Regular flights link Sikkim with Calcutta and Delhi. Helicopter service from Bagdogra to Gangtok takes 45 minutes. Nearest railway stations are at Siliguri (114 kms) and New Jalpaiguri (125 kms), connecting to Calcutta, Delhi, Guwahati, Lucknow and other important cities in India. Connected by road to Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Siliguri and also to all the District Headquarters within Sikkim.

Where to stay : Government tourist lodges Circuit Houses, Hotel Mayur, Norkhill, Tashi Delek, Tibet and Siniolcuh Lodge and number of other hotels to suit all budgets.

What to see : Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom, Do-Drul chorten Research Institute of Tibeteology, Enchey Monastery (3 kms), Saramsa Garden (14 kms), Ganesh Tok (7 kms), Tsongo Lake (40 kms) Tashi View Point, Phodong Monastery (38 kms).
