HILL STATIONS

Uttar Pradesh has some very fascinating hill stations which are divided into two regions Kumaon and Garhwal. Kumaon hills include - Nainital, Ranikhet, Almora and Pithoragarh. While Garhwal hills comprise of Mussourie, Garhwal, Tehri, Garhwal, Chamoli and Uttarkashi. Some popular hill stations are:

Auli

Auli boasts of one of the best skiing slopes in the country which drop from an altitude of 3049m to 2519m.

How to reach: The nearest airport is at Jolly Grant (270 kms). The nearest railheads are Haridwar and Dehradun. By road, Auli is only a 13 kms drive from Joshimath. State transport and Union buses ply regularly between Joshimath and Rishikesh (253 kms), Dehradun (295 kms) and Delhi (500 kms). From Joshimath onwards both bus and taxi services are available for Auli. Also the most popular way to reach Auli is by a cable car service which runs for 3 kms from Joshimath.

Where to stay: Tourist rest houses. Luxury hotels, cottages and log huts.

Excursions: Hemkund Sahib, Badrinath, Valley of Flowers, Tapovan.
