MADANA MOHANA MALAVIYA

The Site

Malaviya was determined to obtain the sacred land on which Benares Hindu University stands today. That piece of land belonged to the Raja of Benares. The Raja said, "I am prepared to pay you as much money as you want but please do not ask me for that land. I am deeply attached

to it." But by God's grace, Malaviy was able to secure the same land as a gift on the auspicious day Makara Sankranti.
