Prahlada
Hiranyakashipu was an enemy of the devatas (gods). Once, while he was away at the Mandara
mountains for penance, Lord Indra. Kidnapped his wife Kayadu and tried to kill the child
in her womb. Then Narada went to Lord Indra and prevented the misdeed by preaching him
good sense. Narada then took away Kayadu to his ashram and looked after her till
Hiranyakashipu came back from his penance. The child in her womb was Prahlada. Narada used
to address Prahlada even while he was in his mother's womb and he would preach the child
Dharma and describe the glory of the Lord. Thus when Prahlada was born he was already a
great devotee of Mahavishnu. |
